You tried to download a Threads video and something went wrong. Threadster said it could not find a video. The download started but the file was empty. Or nothing happened at all. These things happen, and most of the time the fix is simple.
Here are the most common problems and how to sort them out.
This is the most common error. It usually means one of three things.
Threadster only works with public Threads posts. If the profile is private or the post is restricted, Threadster cannot access it. Threads blocks outside tools from seeing private content, and we do not try to work around that.
How to check: open the Threads post in a private browser window where you are not logged in. If you cannot see it there, it is private. There is no workaround. You would need to ask the person who posted it to send the video to you directly.
If the original post has been removed from Threads, the video is gone. Threadster does not store videos. It pulls them from Threads in real time, so once the post is gone, there is nothing to download.
The Threads app has different links floating around depending on where you tap. The right one is the one you get from tapping Copy Link on the post itself, not on the user's profile picture or name.
A correct Threads post URL looks something like this: https://www.threads.net/@username/post/CvsLZsqOzt7. If your URL ends with just a username and no post ID, you copied the wrong link.
Threadster downloads videos directly from Threads' servers, so if the download is slow, it is almost always a network issue on your end.
A few things to try:
If the file will not open, it might be one of these.
The download was interrupted. Big HD files can fail mid download if your connection drops. Try again from scratch.
The player does not support the format. Threads videos are MP4 files and almost everything plays MP4. If you are stuck, install VLC which handles every format.
On iPhone, the download did not finish. Safari sometimes asks you to confirm a download. If you missed the popup, the file did not actually complete.
Threadster works with links to Threads posts. The standard formats are:
https://www.threads.net/@username/post/POST_IDhttps://www.threads.net/t/POST_IDIf you are pasting a link to a Threads profile, the Threads home page, or a notification, Threadster will not find a video.
If you have a shortened URL from somewhere else, open it in your browser to expand it to the full Threads URL, then paste that.
If Threadster shows the video but the download button is missing, refresh the page and paste the link again. This is rare but happens when something goes wrong during page load.
Also check that JavaScript is enabled. Threadster needs it. If you use a content blocker that disables scripts, try turning it off for threadster.app.
This usually happens on iPhone. Safari saves downloads to the Files app under Downloads. Open the Files app, go to Downloads, and your video is there.
If you would rather have it in your Photos app, tap the share icon in Files and pick Save Video.
To skip this step entirely, use the TVD app. It can save directly to Photos with one tap.
If none of the above sorted it, try the following.
