You found a video on Threads that you want to keep. Maybe it is a funny clip from your favourite creator, a recipe walkthrough, or a sports moment that is going to disappear in your feed by tomorrow. Whatever the reason, Threads does not give you a built in download button, so you need a workaround.
That is what Threadster is built for. It is free, works in any browser, and the whole thing takes less than a minute. Let me walk you through it.
First, you need the URL of the post that contains the video. How you grab it depends on your device.
Open the Threads app and find the post you want. Tap the share icon below it. Tap Copy Link. The link is now on your clipboard.
If you are using Threads in a browser, open the post and copy the URL straight from your address bar. You can also right click the share icon and copy from there.
Go to threadster.app in your browser. You will see a text field right at the top of the page. Paste the copied link into it and click Download.
Threadster will pull the video and show you the available quality options. Most of the time you will get HD and SD. HD looks better but the file is bigger. SD is fine if you just want to watch on your phone and do not care about pixel level detail.
Click the Download button next to the quality you want. The video saves to your device. On a phone, you will find it in your Downloads folder. On a computer, it goes wherever your browser keeps downloads by default.
That is the whole flow. Three steps, no account, no software install.
The steps above work fine in Safari or Chrome on iPhone. If you save Threads videos often though, the dedicated app is way faster. TVD on the App Store lets you share a Thread directly from the Threads app and download it without copying links at all. You tap Share, pick TVD, and the file is in your gallery in a couple of seconds. There is more in our iPhone download guide.
On Android, the copy paste method works in any browser. For something quicker, install the Threadster app from Google Play. It plugs into the Android share sheet so you can send a Threads post straight to it. The video lands in your phone's gallery under a folder called Threadster. Full walkthrough in our Android download guide.
Desktop is the simplest. Open the Threads post in your browser, copy the URL from the address bar, paste it into Threadster, and download. The video saves to your downloads folder. Works on Windows, Mac, and Linux with any browser. If you want a one click shortcut, our bookmarklet turns the whole flow into a single tap.
Threadster only works with public Threads posts. If the post is from a private profile, Threadster cannot access it. We do not ask for your Threads login and we never will.
If a post is deleted from Threads, the video is gone. Threadster does not store videos on its own servers. It fetches them directly from Threads in real time, so if the post no longer exists, there is nothing to grab.
If you run into trouble, check our troubleshooting guide for the most common fixes.
HD is usually the right choice. The files are bigger but not by much, and the video looks noticeably better on a laptop or TV screen. If you are tight on storage or on a slow connection, SD is fine. We dig into this more in our post on Threads video quality and formats.
Downloading Threads videos should be easy and with Threadster it actually is. Copy a link, paste it, download. It works on every device, it is free, and you do not need an account.
If you mostly download on your phone, just install the app. It saves time and you skip the copy paste step entirely. Otherwise, bookmark this site and you are set.
